Alphonso Davies misses Penalty as Belgium defeat Canada 1-0.

Belgium start their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with a hard fought victory against Canada.

Canada thought they were getting their first ever World Cup goal when Alphonso Davies had his penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois after Alderweireld was penalised for a handball in the penalty area.

Canada came close to scoring on multiple occasions but couldn’t find a way past the brilliant Courtois.

Belgium finally got their goal 10 minutes past the half hour mark through Bastuayi after Alderweireld lifted a perfect ball into the frontman from deep, who followed the pass and waited for his opportunity to present itself before burying his finish into the far corner of the net.

Belgium currently sit top of the group with 3 points while Croatia and Morocco who played a goalless draw today are tied with one point each.

Up next for Belgium is Morocco on the 27th while Canada play Croatia on the same day.
