Is CERTIFIED a real win for the Cameroon or just over hype?

Michael Baiye who is better known by his stage name “Jbwai” recently released his first body of work titled “CERTIFIED” and it has been making rounds on social media because of its Success in the Nigerian music industry. Many have questioned if it’s actually real or fake Let’s forget about the trends and talks, have you listened to the EP ? What’s your take on it ? I’m here to tell you my honest opinion about the EP.

Jbwai has been in the music industry for sometime now and many got to know him only in 2021 after he did the remix of his song “Busy body” featuring Ko-c.

The pop artist seems to have found his sound and is now on a journey to find a balance between his sound and the pop expectations of the music industry. With “CERTIFIED,” though, Jbwai explored a chance to create something that sticks in totality; a real project, not just a trial-and-error EP that houses one major hit.

Jbwai – Certified EP tracklist.

1) Gbas Gbos
2) Into you ft Waje
3) Kalamity ft Dadaboy & Bolu Ajibade
4) African Girl ft Gasha

Jbwai is a powerful storyteller as evidenced by his songs and this EP comes to solidify his sound (set the base of his songs). The four song EP starts with “Gbas Gbos” which is an amapiano sound, Jbwai talks about his struggles in the capital city of Cameroon, Yaoundé. On the second song, Jbwai takes us from the streets of Yaoundé to the love land on a sweet Afro-pop beat expressing how he misses his lover and Nigerian singer Waje comes in with the second verse to spice it up.

Kalamity” is is the kind of afro-pop not more than three young artists in this industry can do right now. This is actually my best song from the EP and Jbwai is in a more conscious headspace, and reflecting on his hustle featuring Nigerian singer Bolu Ajibade

Then the last song from the EP “African girl” comes in where he flows effortlessly on the Afro-pop beat. Jbwai expresses his love for Big bum bum and Gasha later comes in with confidence and handles the beat like a queen.

My Rating: 8.5/10
