Nigerian Afrobeat craftsmen Burna Boy, Asake, Kizz Daniel, Rema, and others got huge selections for the sixteenth Headies Grants.

The Nigerian Hip Hop World Magazine started the Headies music awards program in 2006 to recognize outstanding achievements in the country’s music industry.

During the annual celebration, both established and emerging performers perform.

The 16th Headies Awards are certain to be a highly anticipated occasion due to the fact that Burna Boy, Asake, Kizz Daniel, Rema, Omah Lay, and others lead the race with the most nominations.

The importance of these talented musicians on the Nigerian music landscape is undeniable, and their acknowledgement at the Headies further strengthens their position as leaders in the field.

The 16th edition’s year in review runs from January 2022 to March 2023, as anticipated, hence only musical works released during this time frame were nominated.

With eleven and nine nominations, respectively, Burna Boy and Asake are in the lead after a stellar run from 2022 until the present.

The Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy released his seventh studio album, Love, Damini, in the year. The album featured hit songs like Kilometre, For My Hand, which features Ed Sheeran, the global monster tune, and the massively popular Last Last, which many dubbed the summer jam of 2022.

The longest-touring member of the Afro-fusion genre received a total of eleven nominations, including those for best recording of the year, songwriter of the year, best collaboration, and Afrobeats hit of the year, among others.

After releasing his chart-topping Mr Money With The Vibe and his first EP, Ololade Asake, in the same year, YBNL and Empire signee Asake was anticipated to be among the group. These projects produced hit songs like Terminator, Omo Ope, Sungba, Trabaye, Organise, PBUY, and others.

Nine nominations were received by the neo-fuji act, including Best Collaboration, Best Street-Hop Artist, Song of the Year, Best Male Artist, Next Rated, and a number of others.

Afro-classic singer Kizz Daniel, who garnered five nominations, is one of the other well-known Nigerian acts on the nominations list.

Buzzing Mavin Records global star Rema also got five nominations, as did Omah Lay and vocal powerhouse and songstress Simi.

Ayra Starr, Oxlade, Pheelz, and Victony, four new cats, were nominated in four categories. Interestingly, Davido received two nominations, whereas Wizkid received none.
