Damini Ogulu, better known by his stage name Burna Boy, a Grammy-winning singer, said that after a concert in 2014, he knew he had become a big artiste.

He claimed that it was the first time he had performed in a stadium in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria, and the large number of fans who attended convinced him of his popularity.

Burna said in an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra that the South-East prefers artists from the region, so it was significant for an outsider to be accepted.

The Afrobeats star claimed that he had never witnessed such love before and that he did not believe it to be genuine.

In response to a question about when he knew he was well-known, Burna said; “2014, that’s the first time I did a show in a stadium the eastern part of Nigeria.

They only like their own people, so if you’ve crossed over there and you’re not from there then you know you have popped.

I have never seen anything like that, I didn’t even think it was real (laughs) It was a real thing that could happen.”
