Cameroon come from behind to defeat Burkina Faso 2:1 after scoring from the spot twice
Cameroon has defeated Burkina Faso 2:1 in the AFCON 2021 opener after scoring two goals from the spot.
Burkina Faso opened the scoring Gustavo Sangare who was at the finishing end of a Bertrand Traore cross.
Cameroon got their equalizer through Vincent Aboubakar who made no mistake from the spot after Zambo Anguissa was fouled by Bertrand Traore in the box. History was made in this action as AFCON saw its first group stage VAR use after referee Mustapha Ghorbal consulted the VAR before awarding the Penalty.
Cameroon took the lead in first half added time from the spot oncemore through Vincent Aboubakar who sent the goalkeeper the wrong and added his tournament tally to two.
Aboubakar thought he got his third close to the half hour mark but saw the goal ruled out after a long VAR check.
Up next Ethiopia take on Cape Verde in the second Group A match.
