Host Cameroon drawn alongside Cape Verde and Kenya in Group A of the Afrobasket 2021 tournament scheduled to take place next month

Hosts Cameroon have been drawn alongside Cape Verde and Kenya in the Afrobasket 2021(formerly called FIBA) tournament. Cameroon will be looking to win their first ever title.


The draws took place at the Yaounde multi-purpose sports complex on the 31 of August 2021.
The competition shall run from the 16th to 26th of September.

It remains to be determined the winner of the FIBA Africa Zone 6 qualifier, which has been placed in Group B. A wild card team, yet to be confirmed, has been drawn in Group D.

According to FIBA, in the first phase, each team will take on the two opponents in its respective group in one-leg game, while the top teams in each group will advance directly to the Quarter-Finals. The teams ranked second (2nd) and third (3rd) will play the Qualification Round for the quarter-finals. Teams shall be ranked in the group stage using 1)Points 2)Head to Head record 3)Points difference 4) Points scored.

The winners of the Quarter-Final advance to Semi-Finals, while the losers will play the classification games for the 5th to 8th Places.

The classification game for Third-Place and the Final will be played on the last day of competition (September 26).

Senegal has the most titles in the tournaments history with eleven Gold medals, eight silver and three bronze medals followed by Nigeria with four Gold medals and two Bronze.
Host Cameroon are tenth on the list with No gold medal, one silver and two Bronze.
