Lionel Messi breaks Pele’s international record after scoring a hat trick against Bolivia

Lionel Messi scored a hat trick as Argentina thrashed Bolivia three goals to Nil in the South American 2022 FIFA World cup qualifiers.


The hat trick put him at 79 international goals for Argentina beating Pele’s record of 77 goals for Brazil to become the highest goalscorer in South American international football.

The man who is ranked as favourite to win his seventh ballon d’or this year is in the form of his life, he recently led Argentina to a Copa America finals this summer scoring 5 goals and assisting a further 4 in their run to the title.
He still has a long way to go before reaching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 111 international goals which is the highest in international football history.
