The highly regarded rapper and music businessman explained why he signed some of Nigeria’s most prominent artists.

Olamide Adedeji, more commonly referred to as Olamide, is a great Nigerian rapper and music executive. He has spoken out about the reasons he signed artists like Asake, Fireboy, and Adekunle Gold.

The boss of YBNL continues to follow that path, having signed or co-signed fifteen artists who went on to become well-known in the Nigerian music scene and beyond. Acts such as Viktoh, Adekunle Gold, Chinko Ekun, Zlatan, Naira Marley, Picasso, Lyta, Davolee, the late Olanrewaju Pele Pele, Temmie Ovwasa, DJ Enimoney, Pheelz, Fireboy DML, Asake, Young Jonn, and others all benefited in some way from the assistance of the renowned baddo.

Speaking in an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, Olamide stated that he decided to start signing new acts when he realized that he was accumulating so much wealth that it could cater to more than just his own needs and wants. According to the father of one, he didn’t know what to do with that much money, so he resorted to giving back to the community by signing talented acts who needed help to elevate their careers. He said:

I just started stacking up money and the money was becoming too much for me. I was like, ‘Yo, I don’t have anything to do with this money. I need to sign new guys. Let me spend money on people. You know it is just like my own way of giving back to society.
