Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, a sensational afrobeats star from Nigeria, is getting closer to breaking the record held by the late South African music icon Hugh Masekela for the highest-charting African song on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The remix rendition of his hit melody ‘Calm Down,’ which highlighted American vocalist Selena Gomez, hit another top at Number 4 on the current week’s Hot 100 graph, which is a Nigerian record.

Rema now holds the record for the highest-charting song by an African artist on the Hot 100 with this accomplishment.

Recalls that Rema earlier surpassed Wizkid’s record as the highest charting Nigerian lead artist in Billboard Hot 100 history after ‘Calm Down’ surpassed ‘Essence’ which peaked at number 9 last year.

‘Calm Down’ is projected to hit a new peak next week.

Wizkid and Tems have reached number one on the Hot 100 chart, but as guests and not lead acts.
