This is a throwback post to the early 2000s. In September 24th, 2000, the indomitable Lions of Cameroon made history all over the world after they defeated the Seleção Canarinho of Brazil at the Olympic Games quarterfinals in Brisbane where they faced Chile in the Semifinals with just 9 players on the pitch.

How Cameroon once won Brazil 2-1 in 2000

When the match began, both teams had 11 players each and at exactly 17 minutes, Patrick MBOMA scored for Cameroon making the score 🇨🇲1-0 🇧🇷.

The match played up till the 75th minute when Cameroon lost their first player Geremi Njitap (Cameroon captain ) was sent off the pitch after his second Yellow Card which was for wasting time at 90 minutes, The indomitable lions had collected 5 yellow cards while leading the match 🇨🇲1-0🇧🇷.

During the additional time, Aaron NGUIMBAT collected a red card (♦️) after he caused a foul. And at this time Cameroon was called for 42 fouls, compared with 15 for the Brazilians. After the 94th minute, Brazil superstar RONALDINHO scored an equalizing goal which made the score 🇨🇲1-1🇧🇷.

Cameroon was left with just 9 players this time before they’ll start prolongation time. During the first half (15mins) Modeste MBAMI came through for Cameroon and recorded a second goal for Cameroon making the scores 🇨🇲2-1🇧🇷. Cameroon’s coach at that time was Jean-Paul Akono.

“I told them we could still win if we organized ourselves, It didn’t surprise me that we beat Brazil.

Cameroon players like to attack. My policy is that if we are attacking the other team can’t attack us.”
