Senegal bow to Netherlands 2-0 in their opening 2022 FIFA World Cup match

Senegal has lost their first group match to the Netherlands.

The  champions came into the clash as underdogs especially with their star player Mane injured and kept the match goalless till the 84th minute when Gakpo was at the end of a Frenkie De Jong cross to put the European giants 1-0 up.

Klaassen doubled the lead for the Netherlands in 90+8 minutes from the rebound of Depay’s save shot to kill the hopes of the African champions.

Ismaila Sarr came close to scoring for the African side in the first half but had his shot blocked by Virgil Van Dijk.

Senegal sit third in the group with 0 points while Ecuador who won their match against Qatar yesterday 2-0 sit top of the group with 3 points and a +2 goal difference, same with the Netherlands

Upnext for Senegal is Qatar on the 25th while Netherlands play Ecaudor same day.
