Andre Onana has been called back in the Cameroon national team months after coach Rigobert Song suspended him in Qatar and he announced his resignation from international football.

Why did Andre Onana quit Cameroon national team in 2022 ?

Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana ended his career with the national team on December 23rd, 2022 one month after the 26-year-old player was sent home from the World Cup in a dispute with coach Rigobert Song.

The last of Andre Onana’s 34 international games was the 1-0 loss to Switzerland on November 24th 2022 at the World Cup in Qatar.

Onana later released a statement referring to his disagreement with Song over team tactics that led to him being dropped for the next game, a 3-3 draw with Serbia.

“I have put all my efforts and energy into finding solutions to a situation that a footballer often experiences, but there has been no will on the other side,” Onana said then. “Some moments are difficult to assimilate.”

Song later said he needed all his players to “show discipline and respect.”

Andre Onana returns to Cameroon national team after quitting ?

Recall that on May 24th, 2023 Kimbi blog published an article asking if Andre Onana and Fabrice Ondoa are back in the Cameroon national team after leaked documents showed a letter where FECAFOOT wrote to the ministry of foreign affairs to prepare Visas of 8 Cameroonian players to travel ahead of Mexico vs Cameroon which happened on June 10th, 2023 and Andre Onana and Fabrice Ondoa were included. Rigobert Song announced the return of Fabrice Ondoa that before the match and since then he’s been silent

On August 29th 2023 the indomitable Lions head coach Rigobert Song released the Cameroon squad that will play against Burundi and Andre Onana was included.

Andre Onana returned alongside Njie Clinton who has not participated in any National game since world cup qualifications in 2022.
